Source Meter Testing

Source meters measure the amount of water passing into the water distribution network. The combined volume from these meters is the largest volume in the water balance calculation and any errors in measurement will usually have the greatest impact on the overall accuracy of the water balance calculation.

Regular testing and calibration of source meters is recommended to ensure that optimum accuracy of measurement is achieved. WSO can provide a full source meter testing service using either comparative meter testing or volumetric meter testing, depending on your needs.

Comparative meter testing uses a temporarily installed ‘reference’ meter of known accuracy to provide an on-site reference measurement against which the source meter can be compared. This method has the advantage of causing no interruption to normal supply conditions. Volumetric meter testing utilises any available on-site storage to pass a measured volume of water through the source meter and may require alteration to the normal supply regime.
